  • Find a penny, pick it up...

    As the Arlene, her husband and her boss were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband. He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment.

    Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts. Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny.

    He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?

    He nearly bubbled..."And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him. Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!"

    When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, "In God We Trust," and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message.

    It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful! And, God is patient.

  • Footsteps In The Sand
    One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD. When the last scene of his life flashed before him he looked back, at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it:
    "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."
    The LORD replied: "My son, My precious child, I love you and I would never leave you, During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

  • Imagine Ask Believe Receive

  • In God’s eyes, how much you make, how much you have, and how much you do is irrelevant. In God’s eyes, who you are and what you are worth begins and ends with your intentions, your pure thoughts, your acts of kindness, and your love for all. In God’s eyes, what you do for yourself pales in comparison to what you do for others. In God’s eyes, your entire being consists of your heart, your head, your hands, and how you use each to show love for others. So, the question of the morning: Are you living your life in God’s eyes?

  • We walk by faith, and not by sight;
    No gracious words we hear
    Oh him who spoke as none e'er spoke,
    But we believe him near

    We may not touch his hands and side,
    Nor follow where he trod;
    Yet in his promise we rejoice,
    And cry, "My Lord and God!"

    Help then, O Lord our unbelief,
    And may our faith abound;
    To call on you when you are near,
    And seek where you are found.

    That when our life of faith is done
    in realms of clearer light
    We may behold you as you are
    In full and endless sight.

    We walk by faith, and not by sight;
    No gracious words we hear.
    Of him who spoke as none e'er spoke,
    But we believe him near.
